Happy Bhogi, Thai Pongal & Makara Sankranti šš¾
Saį¹ krÄnti marks the sacred transition of the Sunāits passage from one zodiac sign to anotherāmost auspiciously when it enters Makara (Capricorn), beginning UttarÄyaį¹a, the Sunās northward journey and the path of light (DevayÄna).
Celebrated as Thai Pongal in the Tamil month of Thai, this festival honours the first harvest, where newly reaped rice overflows as Pongalāa symbol of abundance, gratitude, and natureās generosity.
From Bhogiās bonfire of renewal, to Sun worship on Pongal day, Maattu Pongalās reverence to cattle, and Kaanum Pongalās family reunions, the festival weaves together Sun, Earth, water, fire, air, space, art, food, sharing, and joy.
Kite flying reminds us:
Be light within, grounded by ancestral blessings, guided by the five elementsāand you will soar.
Known across cultures as Uttarayan, Sankranti, Maghi, Maghe, Pongal, Songkran, Thingyan, and more, this is a universal celebration of light, life, and renewal.
