Ugadi — The Dawn of a New Cycle

Ugadi, Yugadi, Gudi Padwa—

It arrives on Chaitra Shuddha Padyami—
the first luminous day
of the waxing moon
in the month of Chaitra.

Astronomically,
It follows the first new moon after the spring equinox,
when the Sun begins its northward journey (Uttarayana),
crossing the celestial equator
and aligning with the First Point of Aries.

Chaitra Shuddha Padyami (or Chaitra Shukla Pratipada) marks the first day of the Hindu lunar month of Chaitra and the start of the New Year for many worldwide.

It is believed that Lord Brahma started the creation of the universe on this day, making it a sacred day of creation and new beginnings.
It is the first day (Padyami/Pratipada) of the waxing moon (Shuddha) in the month of Chaitra.

Gudi Padwa: Celebrated in Maharashtra by raising a 'Gudi' (a decorated pole) to welcome prosperity and the spring season.

People clean their homes, wear new clothes, prepare traditional feasts, and hear the traditional yearly forecast (Panchanga Sravanam).
